Iscar recently released several different drilling innovations to meet their customers needs. These recent products are Sumocham Drill, DR-DH and Deep Drills. Drawing off of their experience Iscar has come up with brand new and innovative ways to enhance productivity for the customer. Here is a little bit about these innovative products, and how they will benefit the end user of these products.
SUMOCHAM Drills
ISCAR's new SUMOCHAM drill family is an advanced progression of the very effective CHAMDRILL and CHAMDRILLJET drill families. The drill features twisted coolant nozzles with indexable drilling heads which are available in different head configurations for numerous material groups. SUMOCHAM drills can be used on milling centers or lathes.
SUMOCHAM includes four different standard drill head geometries, designed for optimal performance and high dependability. The drill head is manufactured with a sharp cutting edge and polished flutes. SUMOCHAM drilling heads are available in the diameter range of 8 to 25.9 mm. The drill head has ground flutes for smooth, constant chip flow and a ground gash for enhanced penetration.
The drill shank design is in accordance to DIN 9766 standard, with obtainable drilling depth to diameter ratios of 1.5XD, 3xD, 5XD and 8xD. All drill bodies feature coolant through holes. The accurate cylinder added to the clamping portion improves rigidity and decreases internal stresses. The rotation stopper planes are precision ground, which enhance the control on the drilling head position and support, increasing tool performance and life. ISCAR's innovative SUMOCHAM drill line will allow for longer tool life and greater productivity.
DR-DH Deep Drills
DR-DH drills can achieve drilling depth-to-diameter ratio of 7XD and up. Designed to be implemented on standard horizontal milling centers, turning, and multi-task machines. Use of additional machine and setup can be avoided. They will be obtainable as semi-standard product in a diameter range of 25.4 to 69.5 mm (1.00 - 2.73").
Two versions will be available:
A Single Flute DR-DH-31.65-0350NC-2FS is a very stiff tool having a patented chip gullet design. It was designed for easily cut materials such as cast iron and low alloyed steel.
A Double Flute DR-DH-31.65-0350NC-2FD has a double chip gullet for better chip flow. It was engineered for drilling gummy materials like non-alloyed steel and high temperature alloys.
ISCAR DEEP HOLE DRILLS
With ISCAR's brand new solid carbide deep hole drills, you can easily drill up to 22 times diameter and reach bottom10% faster than with other solid carbide drills - and six times faster than a HSS drill. This capability can speed up several high-volume operations. The deep-hole drilling station no longer needs to slow down a transfer line or stop it fully because a drill breaks.
Other target applications encompass deep holes for automotive, hydraulic blocks and die & mold work. A mixture of features assist the twist drills to cut faster, straighter,deeper, last longer and expel chips more surely. A specialized high-strength core creates a more enduring drill point and allows for deeper flutes, enlarging the departure path for chips.
The drill tip itself has a 140 positive-point, four-margin design to preserve the edge, decrease thrust forces and assist centering and tracking. A post-coat polishing measure on the flutes, margins and cutting edges reduces friction and torque that can easily snap a drill.
The brand new drills are available in standard diameters ranging from 5 to 10 mm, in 20 and 22 length to diameter ratios. Special sizes are available on request. All are built of IC908, a 10% cobalt submicron carbide grade, and comes with a TiAlN PVD coating, and can be reconditioned.
