We rely heavily on cars getting us to work and on longer trips. Cars break down sometimes though. Be prepared by having an emergency kit when that happens.

Why you need a car emergency kit
Even if you have OnStar or AAA, you never know when your car will break down. You could be required to wait or not have cell phone reception. An emergency car kit will prepare you for whatever you need if anything happens.
What should be in your emergency kit part one
Mechanical tools are the first thing you need. In a pinch, you will be able to fix the car. Included in these tools are:
- Some jumper cables
- At least three quarts of oil
- Antifreeze (make sure it's the right type for your car)
- A set of fuses
- Some screwdrivers or multiple bit screwdrivers
- Wire cutters, a pocketknife, and a multi-tool with pliers
- Wrenches or adjustable wrench
- One roll of duct tape
- Emergency tire inflator, such as Fix-A-Flat, and a pressure gauge
- Heavy-duty tow rope
- Get a spare tire and jack
What to include in your car emergency kit - part 2
You may face other problems that you could run into on the road. Your car emergency kit should also include a variety of items to help keep you and your passengers safe and comfortable. These items should include:
- A first-aid kit
- At least one blanket or sleeping bag
- Batteries and a flashlight
- Roll of toilet paper, paper towels or both
- Pen and a notepad
- Granola bars on energy bars
- At least 1 gallon of water
- Get some roadside flares
- Get a large tarp
A well packed car emergency kit, although it seems a lot of gear, takes up relatively little space. It can be stores under a seat or in the trunk. There will be a time where you are glad to have made this emergency kit.
