Carpet Repair Tips For Using A Cookie Cutter by Steve gordon
If you have a small burn or stain in your carpet it may require a patch. One way to patch a small area is with a cookie cutter.
Using a cookie cutter to patch a carpet is really easy. You just use the tool to cut out the bad area and then cut another piece of carpet to do the patch with. When that's done you simply glue it in place.
There's a great little video on carpet patching at http://www.creativecarpetrepair.com/patches.php
A few tips about using a cookie cutter to patch a carpet:
* Use carpet from a door mat if possible to do the patch with. It will have faded a similar amount.
* If you use carpet from a closet, don't take it from straight ahead in the back of the closet. Take the piece from behind the door.
* Don't just start cutting. Take a few minutes to try to get as much nap as possible away from the cutting edge. I like to use my awl but you can use a screwdriver just as easily.
* Whenever possible cut the carpet from the back.
* Use seam tape and hot glue for the actual patching. Don't use that cheap carpet tape that you peel the back off of. Using a hot glue gun will make sure that the patch will stay in place for years to come.
* Be sure that the carpet is running the same direction. If the patch isn't running the same direction as the rest of the carpet you will see the seams.
* Lower your expectations a little bit. You are patching a carpet. You will likely be able to see the patch at least a little bit.
Good luck with patching your carpet. If there's anything I can do to help you please feel free to give me a call. I have carpet repair experts from coast to coast. Steve Gordon http://www.creativecarpetrepair.com
