How To Replace Your Cars Engine Oil
It's vital to switch your car's oil often to prevent early engine wear. As engine oil gets older, or if you have been driving in very hot and/or dusty conditions, oil can become tarnished. Typically oil changes under ordinary conditions are needed between 5,000 and 10,000km. Take a look at your vehicle's user manual for more info and recommendations for prepared oil changes. What you want to get the task finished
Drain Pan
5L bottle of oil, and 1L for top ups
Rag for clean up
Euca hand cleaner or similar
Funnel
Engine Oil Flush (optional)
Creeper (optional)
Preparations
Reklaw Automotive commends using an Engine Oil Flush before replacing your Engine Oil to help in ridding the engine of potentially damaging contaminants. This will help to wash and remove sludge, dirt and varnish, plus keep the oil sieve clean and extend engine life.
Add 1 bottle for up to 5 litres of motor oil before your oil replacement, and allow the engine to idle for at least 10 minutes (maximum) while stationery.
Follow these straightforward steps
Put the drain pan under the drain plug and remove the plug to let the oil drain. Clean around the plug opening when oil has stopped draining, and re-insert the drain plug.
Put the oil pan under the filter, using an oil filter wrench unscrew the old filter.
Wipe the area with a clean rag, making sure also that the rubber seal from the older filter isn't stuck to the engine.
Using some new oil, coat the rubber seal of the new filter
Screw the new filter into place until tight, by hand should suffice.
Now take away the oil filter cap on top of the engine and place a funnel in the opening.
Pour in the new oil, refering to your manual for the correct oil capacity and type.
Replace the cap, check around plug and filter for leaks, and wipe away any excess oil.
Run the engine for roughly 10 minutes and check the dipstick. Add more oil if required.
