FYI on Led Headlamp Head
The Petzl Headlamp Is One Of The Best Head Lights Around
It is difficult to believe but two decades ago there was still no such thing as a dedicated headlamp for caving, climbing, hiking or just sitting around reading in bed. The whole category was conceived by Petzl, a great firm with a long record of making gear for climbers and cavers.
The modern Petzl MYO XP headlight can trace its roots back to some of the earliest models created by Ferdinand Petzl, a dedicated caver who started exploring underground in 1936 and had to invent the majority of the equipment he used. He was such an early exponent of the game that he ended up pathfinding plenty of the strategies that are used today and also developed a lot of the clobber that, in one form or another, is a component of the standard apparatus rack of nearly all of today's rock climbers and cavers.
The modern mountaineering headlamp was developed by this company in 1972 and 1973. It may seem to be one of those "duh moments" but before then there weren't any headlamps out there for climbers and sports enthusiasts. In truth when they set out to make the 1st, they used elastic strips from garter belts to make the attachment for the lamp to fit on the head. After that humble beginning Petzl has become on of the number one producers and trend setters in this field with a huge range of lights.
These come in such variety they're excellent for a whole range of activities including trail running, hiking, camping, mountaineering and caving. In virtually all fields these are technological leaders. Take the MYO XP, which must count as one of the world's best mountaineering head lights. It's a LED headlamp and it comes in several options including ones with a belt-mounted battery, which is excellent for really ice-cold climate conditions as it permits you to stash the battery pack inside your clothing to keep it warm. It has also got a chargeable option.
Most critical of all though is the fact that this light can provide different power settings so you get equivalent to three lights in one. At its highest mode it can through a beam about 100 meters, a big distance which is great for night-hikes and search and recovery. Its lower settings produce a light that's soft enough for reading in bed or doing stuff around the campsite without blinding your mates. In all, the Petzl MYO XP is one of the best all round outside headlamps you'll find.
