There are two models of tabletop planers and thicknessers. With a table model you can feed the wood through and then flip it to feed through planing the other side. Large planers have multiple guides, known as fences to create a piece of wood that is fairly smooth and of an exact set of dimensions. Adjustments can be made for large pieces for precise results.
