Makita Electric Works, famous for their power tools, has a long history of manufacturing high quality products known for superior, innovative design and durability!
The company first started operations in Japan in 1915, almost a century ago, and was founded as a repair and electric motor sales business. Several years down the road, in 1958, Makita became the first Japanese manufacturer of electric planers.
The next year, in 1959, Makita changed its focus to manufacturing electric power tools.
The rest, as they say, is history.
In the same year the company switched to manufacturing electric power tools, it initiated the export of power tools with a shipment of 1300 hand held electric planers to Australia.
In 1960, Makita completed a brand new manufacturing plant, and two years later changed the company name to Makita Electric Works, Ltd.
In April of 1969, thanks to intense research and development, Makita pioneered the first rechargeable power tool: the 6500D battery powered drill.
