Great info resource on Brad Nailer Case
What Is So Fantastic About the Makita MAC2400? by ALILE WILLIAMSON
However you can relax knowing that the inventors of the Makita MAC2400 area very reputable company and they even offer an excellent warranty as they do with all Makita Tools.
What Is So Excellent About the Makita air compressor?
To start with, I need to state that the Makita air compressor is equipped with Makita's Big Bore engineered pump cylinder and piston for higher output for two nail guns, with minus noise and improved on the job performance. The Makita air compressor delivers industrial power and results with improved durability under tough on the job conditions.
After I did my first job with it I was astounded at how it had all the features I wanted: oil lube, low rpm, lower decibel rating(quiet) and decent cfm rating. The start up instructions are simple and you are up and running in 20 minutes. I chose the Makita compressor instead of the Dewalt for one reason: quiet.
The Makita MAC2400 air compressor is powered by a 2.5 HP motor. The Makita Big Bore engineered pump with cast iron cylinder has better bore and stroke for increased compression, quicker recovery and minus noise. The cast iron construction is engineered for increased durability even under tough job site conditions.
The fit and finish is dandy. It has a dual personality: it works and looks strong in the corner of the shop AND is outstanding for taking to a job site or the back yard. You get the best of both worlds. I have easily run 3/8 and 1/2 inch impact wrenches, a brad gun, a finish nail gun, along with blow guns, etc.
Unfortunately when I went to use a Snap-On 7200 3/8" air ratchet, the performance was just adequate. Then I read the spec for the ratchet and it said use 4.5 cfm. The Makita air compressor is rated at 4.2. SO, you do have to watch the cfm ratings on tools. I am sure a 8 cfm jitterbug sander will not work, but then again, that is not the type of tool I wanted this for.
Prominent rubber feet also help keep transmitting vibration to whatever it's sitting on, so no more vibrating boards. This Makita compressor just purrs. I haven't discovered any leaks, contains its air pressure seemingly forever when turned off (you should release the pressure when done using it).
The air filter on this electric air compressor is a miniature version of an old-time car air filter. For a unit that's going to be lying on the ground amidst swirling construction dust, this is a Prominent plus. The Big Bore oil-lubricated pump is also more efficient: the Makita compressor runs cooler and at half the RPM of most competitive units, resulting in greater motor and pump life and lower noise.
Be forwarned Makita's packaging designers always seem to get it 90% right. In this case, the air filter is just placed loose inside the box. Mine broke one of the gauge glasses. If pushed, their warranty department will send out small parts, but it's a problem to get a product this good only to have to fix it immediately out of the box. Also pay attention to the "break-in" procedure. Run it for 30 minutes with no load, open petcock to seat the rings. Remove the plastic plug on the back of the Makita MAC2400 and pour in the included oil until the level is about 50% up the small transparent indicator window. Replace the disposable oil plug with the long black plastic one that they include (not in the instructions - the piece is item # 36 on the parts diagram). Remove the other disposable plastic plug from the side of the Makita air compressor (high up and toward the back of the shroud). This is where you need to install the air filter (which is also not in the instructions).
The air filter assembly is item # 35 on the parts diagram, it's the other spare part included that's chrome and about the size of a hockey puck with a wing nut holding it together. You'll screw in the air filter assembly where you removed that plastic plug, but I'd suggest that you use some teflon tape on the threads to make a good seal. The instructions say that you're to open the air receiver's drain valve at initial start up. Nowhere in any diagram is any part labeled as such, but I'm pretty sure it's item # 47, a valve on the side of the compressor very near the bottom.
Additional features include a convenient oil drain and oil sight glass, a tank drain valve that supersedes standard petcock design for easier maintenance, and finned discharge tubing that remove heat more efficiently. The finned discharge tubing on this thing is fantastic. If you've never had your hand seared like a branding iron after touching discharge tubing on a compressor, you haven't truly felt pain. I've brushed the tubing with the motor running on this one (accidentally) and where my hand normally would have STUCK, it was only warm. Very good touch.
The tanks fill quickly enough, and the gauges are really decent quality. The pressure regulator is pretty comfortable to adjust once you get the hang of it. The 4.2 gallon twin-stacked tank sustains an operating pressure of 130 PSI, and delivers 40PSI (4.8 CFM) and 90 PSI (4.2 CFM), enough for two nailers.
One of the good things about the Makita compressor since it's on the smaller size means it can fit through studs or sit in the footwell of your vehicle. The low AMP draw reduces instances of tripped breakers and voltage drop that can cause premature engine failure. The roll bar handle provides portability and additional protection, helping it withstand harsh job site environments.
At the end of the day, whether you choose the Makita MAC2400 air compressor or a different electric air compressor, I hope this review has helped shed more light on your decision!
As far as a portable air compressor is concerned the Makita MAC2400 air compressor is engineered for low noise, high output and a lesser amount of maintenance, and delivers industrial power and results with improved durability under tough job site conditions.
